The Fruit of the Spirit is Love…

This week we start learning about the fruit of the Spirit, as described in Galatians 5:22-23.

On this page you’ll find activities, bible study and craft to use with children aged 2 - 11, either on Sunday morning or during the rest of the week.

Why not start by trying to learn this week’s memory verse together - here are some ideas for learning bible verses, and a printable colouring page.

Memory Verse

We love because He first loved us
— 1 John 4:19

When Jesus was asked about love he told the story of the Good Samaritan. You can read it here, colour it here, or watch it below:

Jesus told us to love our neighbors. One time, a guy asked Jesus to explain who he meant by "neighbor." Find out who Jesus wants us to love in this parable f...

Crafts

Doing an activity together is a great opportunity to talk - maybe you could use one of these love-themed crafts to connect during the week and talk about how you see one another growing in love. For more instructions and ideas click here.

Wall heart

It doesn't have to be impressive! Using whatever materials you have at home make a heart and stick it on the wall as a reminder of God's love for you.

Biscuits

Pull out a simple biscuit recipe and get baking. If you’ve got a heart-shaped cutter even better.

If you can do so safely why not demonstrate love by delivering your biscuits to a neighbour?

Heart-stamps

Now that you've bought all that toilet roll you might as well have some fun! Fold the tube into a heart and use sellotape to keep it in the right shape, then get stamping.

You could use the stamp to make a card to send to a friend.

Love in Action

Read about one of the following people in the bible and see if you can spot their love in action, then have a go at the questions below.

Barnabas+link.jpg

  • Which character did you choose?

  • Who did they show love to in the passage you read?

  • Why was this difficult to do? (you may need to read more of the chapter to find out about the backstory)

  • Can you think of a time when Jesus showed love in a similar way?

  • Have you ever been in a similar situation?

  • Has God ever helped you to show love in a difficult situation?

Hands-On at Home

easy-peasy lemon squeezy

For the first of our fruit activities here's a bubbling lemon ; a fun way to think about overflowing love.

  • Halve a lemon and cut its bottom off so it will sit flat.

  • Poke the flesh of the lemon with a fork or spoon to release the juice, then squeeze in the juice from the other half too (or lemon juice from a bottle)

  • Add a few drops of food colouring (optional) and some washing-up liquid (optional - more bubbles!).

  • Sprinkle on some bicarbonate of soda, which will start to react with the lemon juice causing the lemon to foam.

Feel free to add more lemon juice or baking soda at this stage and poke it!

I pray that your love will overflow more and more
