Week of Prayer | 13th April → 20th April
As a church we have recently explored the book Practicing the Way (by John Mark Comer) during our Sunday morning sermon series. We have reflected on how we can be with Jesus, become like Jesus and do as He did.
This has been a helpful series as it has highlighted the challenges of living as a disciple of Jesus in a fast paced/busy world. There are lots things in this world that are competing for our time and attention (work, relationships/friendships, parenting, hobbies, social media, TV/phones etc) and if we are not careful we can find that we have nothing left for God.
This week we want to intentionally ‘make room’ for God. We know that unless we are proactive about putting God at the centre of our lives, the things of this world will quickly take over. To help us with this, the prayer guide has a short bible passage and prompt for reflection/prayer each day to help us consider who God is.
We are also offering a prayer space at The City Church Hub multiple times throughout the week as a ‘Room for God’. This will literally be just a room at The City Church Hub (4 walls, a couple of chairs and nothing else!), that you can use to connect in with God. There won’t be an agenda for this time, no sign up required, it will just be a space that we can use to spend time with God.
As you make room for God this week, consider whether you are able to fast for a day or fast a meal; this will be a reminder to us that we need God (more than we need food!).
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:8.
This week of prayer, as we put God at the centre of our lives and draw near to Him, He will respond by drawing near to us.
A Week of Prayer is also a great opportunity to consider the practice of fasting. If you’ve never fasted before or would like to delve deeper into the topic, we’ve gathered some resources to help you:
